One More Thing: Stories and Other Stories by B.J. Novak
(Knopf, 2014, 288 pages)
When I heard that B.J. Novak was writing a book of short stories, I immediately knew that I needed to give it a try since the episodes he wrote on The Office were always so entertaining. Novak’s stories go through a variety of topics with a few surprise crossover between stories and characters. The stories range in length anywhere between three lines to 15 plus pages.
I love how much Novak seemed to consider who he was writing for. There were a lot of pop culture references and celebrity appearances. But there were also some classic literary references and stories that centered around everyday people. One story I particularly enjoyed was the first story in the book. It was a sort of epilogue to the tortoise and the hare after the tortoise beat the hare in a foot race. All of his stories were unique and had a nudge and wink quality of humor to them. But they also had just the right amount of insight to them that allowed the reader to ponder.
Also the book trailer Novak did, with the help of Mindy Kaling, was a lot of fun to watch and a big part as to why I picked the book up so soon.
