The Dreaded Feast

The Dreaded Feast: Writers on Enduring the Holidays edited by Michael Clarke & Taylor Plimpton
(Abrams Image, 2009, 208 pages)

This is a “feast” not to be endured but enjoyed! It’s a collection of 23 humorous assays that were previously published. It’s fun to read various writers on how they endured the holidays. I had many laugh out loud moments. The book includes popular writers such as Jonathan Ames, David Sedaris, and Augusten Burroughs as well as classic writers like Mark Twain, Billy Collins, and others. I was surprised to read movie director John Waters’ “Why I Love Christmas” which was hilarious. Pick up this book and you may pick up a few tips on how to deal with dreaded relatives and survive the holidays 😉
