Skipping Christmas by John Grisham
(Doubleday, 2002, 192 pages)
Luther Krank has come up with what he believes is a fantastic plan for Christmas. Luther and Nora’s daughter Blair joined the Peace Corps and won’t be coming home for the holiday. Instead Luther purchases two cruise tickets and tells Nora they should skip Christmas entirely so they can enjoy their time on their cruise which leaves Christmas day. Nora agrees but the Krank’s neighbors do not. Now there’s a Christmas war between the Kranks and the rest of the neighborhood.
This was a cute and very fast read. I remember seeing the movie Christmas with the Kranks starring Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis a few years ago but I couldn’t remember all the details. The message would put anyone in the holiday spirit and was a good pick to start off the crazy month of December. And it’s a good lesson that it’s never a good idea to skip the holiday season.
