File M for Murder by Miranda James
(Berkley, 2012, 304 pages)

File M for Murder by Miranda James is the third book in the A Cat in the Stacks Mystery series. In File M for Murder, an Athena College librarian (Charlie Harris) and his trusty sidekick and Maine Coon cat (Diesel) help to solve another murder. The temperamental Hollywood playwright, Connor Lawton, comes to Athena College’s Theater Dept. to produce and direct a play. Connor also hires Charlie’s Hollywood actress daughter, Laura, to help him with the play. Before the play is even completed, Connor is murdered and Laura is one of the prime suspects in his death.

With each A Cat in the Stacks Mystery, we learn more about Charlie Harris. The first book introduced Charlie, Diesel, and Charlie’s boarders. In the second book, the reader learns more about Charlie’s son, Sean. In this third book, the reader learns about Charlie’s daughter, Laura. Since Charlie only has 1 son, 1 daughter, and is a widower, I wonder who will be introduced in the next book.

I have reviewed all three of the A Cat in the Stacks Mystery series for the SCC Library Reads blog. I’ve enjoyed them all as they are quick reads with not very complicated plots. In an effort to give equal opportunity to dogs, I’ll mention the Melanie Travis Mysteries by Laurien Berenson. The main character, Melanie Travis, has standard poodles help her solve mysteries. If you prefer dogs to cats, give Laurien Berenson a try.
