This was such a fun book to read! Kaling is known for her humor (she is one of the writers and actors for the hit t.v. show, The Office) and she didn’t disappoint with this book. I laughed out loud a few times while reading, but the overall feeling I got from this book was that I wish I was friends with Mindy Kaling.
The book is basically a collection of short essays. A number of subjects/issues are covered, spanning from her childhood to the present day. We learn about what life was like as a slightly chubby girl with the same haircut as her older brother, what the difference is when it comes to dating a man vs. boy, how Mindy is different from the character she plays on The Office, and how not to deal with conflicts in the workplace.
Her personality really comes through in the book and it’s an incredibly quick and easy read. She even makes a point in the introduction to say that if it takes you more than a few days to read her book you’re not reading it correctly. I definitely recommend it – especially if you’re into celebrity/pop culture and/or enjoy watching The Office.
